ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IV

The project in this class was a continuation of the same redevelopment of a site in Levittown, NY. The Project was to develop a group of micro-apartments for senior residents within the area of the site allocated during the Architectural Design III class.

Using the program defined in Architectural Design III, and the design proposal we created in that class, we had to develop a community for elderly residents. Each dwelling unit was restricted to a size of 400SF and a minimum of 12 units had to be located on the site, in accordance with setbacks, and also with access that didn't interfere with the urgent care center we previously designed.

The main focus of the project was to incorporate as much functionality as possible into the small area we were given. Technological advancements that would assist the owner were also a major focal point of the design. Each dwelling had to be constructed to be accessible in all aspects, and devices were to be included that would allow an elderly resident a greater quality of life. The final drawing set was limited to 5 pages to ensure that each drawing included was high quality and communicated as much information as possible.
